This web site was developed by Jörg Müller-Tolk,using NotePad, and Christina Hemsley, VASARI, for the Eurynome's Gambit project, which took place at the Cybercafe CB1 in Cambridge, 4th to 8th of November 1997. During this intense five-day period artists working in both traditional and new media managed to create something new, which we hope manages to combine the advantages of both sides, while not lessening but heightening the interest in the traditional form of art. Eurynome's Gambit is an international project, which interlinked 12 cities across Europe for the period of one week. In all of these cities artists collaborated, so that by the aid of the new media, Europe's culture could grow closer together. The idea for the web site came from James Hemsley, Managing Director of VASARI, who sees the web site as a chance to promote the interests of East Anglian artists and their works of art. The creation of this web site was made possible by help from the E.C., for which we sincerely wish to thank them. Work on this web site will continue, especially for the EVA Cambridge '98, so that all interested East Anglian artists are very welcome to apply to VASARI for addition to this web site. Special thanks not only to the VASARI office staff and Wilma Leith, without whom this project could never have been realised, but also to all the people at CB1, who joined in with so much enthusiasm, especially Simon Lane, Donald Forbes and Matthew Slater. Last but certainly not least thanks to the team at CB1 itself, Daniel Sturdy, Tony Jewell and Tom Millington, who so kindly agreed to let us use the cafe as the venue for the realisation of this project and who gave us support and encouragement. |
